A tornado has touched down 45 miles NNE of Antelope Island, said Tom Gentry of the National Weather Service.

The tornado lasted approximately 15 minutes. Touching down over the Great Salt Lake, the tornado formed a “water spout” — the result of a tornado striking water rather than land, said Gentry. There has been no damage reported at this time.

“This is the time of year when conditions exist that allows for the formation of tornados,” Gentry said.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado and severe thunder storm weather warning until 6 p.m. tonight.
