SALT LAKE CITY – Logan High School won the 4A state basketball tournament yesterday, beating Timpview in overtime.

The Grizzlies trailed the Thunderbirds for almost the entire game. Logan player Jackson Upton made a three-point shot with 3.2 seconds left in the game to send it to overtime.

“It was a long, hard game, but we made it,” said Upton. “I couldn’t have made that shot if it weren’t for the effort of everyone else on the team.”

“These boys really came together and played as a team should,” said Greg Sorenson, head coach of the Logan High team.

Logan and Timpview traded the lead in overtime until Logan pulled away in the last two minutes.

“It looked like we might win earlier than that, but we couldn’t take anything for granted,” said Sorenson.

The final score was 82-70. Logan player Jim Redford, guard, was named as MVP and contributed 28 points and 14 assists for the Grizzlies.
