RKO studio is producing “The Back Shooter” featuring Gary Cooper and will be using Cache Valley as the main filming location. Cache Valley scenery is considered a prime location as a backdrop for the filming of a contemporary western like this. Filming will take place next spring.

RKO studio really wants to see community involvement with the filming of this movie. Even though details are vague, being an extra in the movie is a definite possibility for Cache Valley residents.

Mayor Robert Veneble encourages all community members to participate.

“We are very excited for this wonderful economic opportunity for our beautiful valley. We are excited to work with David Selznick, RKO’s executive in the future for more production opportunities,” Veneble said.

“This movie is a story of revenge, love and getting shot in the back,” said David O. Selznick, RKO studios executive. “It’s an edgy movie that no one has seen before.”

Gary Cooper has starred in multiple western films. Some of his biggest cowboy films were “The Westerner” and “North West Mounted Police.” Also, in 1966 Cooper was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
